have hired a new education director, Darcy Hanley. As a
professional educator and 20-year patroller, Darcy brings a level of
experience and enthusiasm to the position that I feel will bring great
results. As a patroller, she served as assistant patrol director at
Perfect North Slopes and as the Central Division Senior Program
supervisor. She has also been awarded National Appointment Number
10740. Darcy will be relocating to Denver from Cincinnati and beginning
her employment with NSP on Oct 18. I hope everyone will give her a warm
welcome.

NSP has also been busy building its brand as a training
organization by developing and promoting programs in cooperation with
two fall Eastern ski area conferences. Patrollers Matt Fulton, of
Dartmouth Skiway, and Mark LaBlond, of Sunday River, conducted an
Off-Trail Low-Angle Rescue program in conjunction with the

Northeast Snow Sports Summit held at Sunday River, Maine
on September 16. Matt Speier of Belleayre Ski Area conducted a similar
program at the Ski Areas of N.Y. Fall Conference on September 22. The
seminar and on-hill practicum covered equipment selection, evaluating your
ski area's rescue needs, and the procedures for creating a low-angle
rescue plan. Matt, Matt and Mark represented the NSP with exceptional
competency and strength. Our special thanks to the Eastern Division and
Division Director John Shipman for his cooperation in promoting the
programs.

Recruitment
Posters and Stickers
Get your NSP recruitment posters and stickers while they
last. The recruitment posters were a HUGE success last year! This
year, we have printed new ones, including a female and a snowboarder,
for patrols to use at OEC refreshers or hang at area high schools and
colleges and local ski shops. Pass them around and spread the word that
your patrol needs patrollers! To order your posters free of
charge, other than shipping, call Christine Albertson at 720-963-2621,
or e-mail her at calbertson@nsp.org.
NSP Photo Site
With
ski season fast approaching, now is the time to highlight your patrol
on the NSP Photo Page on
Flickr. The page will also be used for entries to the NSP
"Patrolling is Life" photo contest. Take photos of your OEC
refresher, lift evac practice, or first day on the hill and share them
with other NSP members! To post photos, go to Flickr, click
Sign In, enter the login ID nspphotos and the password. The password
for October is Snowflake (use caps on the S). The password will change
monthly, and will be included in each Final Sweep; if the login
does not work, e-mail Candace Horgan.
