NSP Board Passes Resolution Supporting 10th Mountain Division

This month, the NSP board of directors issued a proclamation supporting the 10th Mountain Division Foundation's efforts to create a permanent display at the Colorado History Center (home of the Colorado Historical Society). The Colorado Historical Society and the Denver Public Library are co-partners of the 10th Mountain Division Resources Center.

Three NSP Board Members Finish Term

The NSP wants to thank David Ginley, Bela Musits, and Clark Noble for their service to the board of directors. These three members are completing their board service on December 1. They brought ideas and improvements in the areas of brand, governance, and strategic planning. We are a better organization because of their service.

NSP Safety Team Announced

The NSP has added five new members to its eight-member Safety Team. Please welcome new members Shauna Bocksch, Patrick Cruver, Brett Henyon, Mike Husar, and Sal Mascareñas, who will join existing members Mike Petrozzi, Ed Strapp, and Lonny Whitcomb. Look in the winter Ski Patrol Magazine for more information the new Safety Team.

Donations Fund NSP Education Programs

We want to thank the estate of William Leonard Blake, which left a $1,000 donation to the NSP in the will. Blake, a patroller in the Central Division, had National Appointment Number 1965. Also, we want to thank the Powder Ridge Patrol in Connecticut for making a $900 donation in the name of Gerald "Gerry" LeBlanc, a longtime patroller who had started the patrol on the path to fundraising so that the patrol could give back. Each month going forward, NSP will spotlight someone or multiple people who have given to the NSP's Anniversary Fundraising Campaign.

NSP and NSAA Address Burton Patroller Look-Alike Parka

The leadership of the NSP and the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) are working together to address a potentially serious issue. Snowboard company Burton has created the new Porter Patrol Jacket, a reversible jacket with a white patrol cross on one side. Burton is marketing the jacket to the public (nonpatrollers) with the slogan "Blend in with authority." Both NSP and NSAA have written letters to Burton regarding the potentially serious consequences that could arise from having young snowboarders and skiers impersonating patrollers. Patrollers are advised to be on the lookout for members of the skiing and snowboarding public wearing this jacket.

Education

A Message from Education Director Darcy Hanley

With many OEC candidates becoming patrollers, the national office is trying to vet the OEC written test. Therefore, I am requesting that any and all IORs of a recent OEC course send me the student answer keys for the written test Version 1 and Version 2. Names are not important, but how candidates answered the questions is. I would request that these be scanned and sent to mailto:dhanley@nsp.org?. It is not necessary to do the analysis yourself. After it is completed, the analysis information will be available to all OEC division supervisors, who can then forward it on to you. Thank you for your help with this critical task.
