In Memoriam: Mike Niese, Mount Ski Gull Patrol

February 8, 1955 – July 3, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mike Niese, a longtime member of Mount Ski Gull Patrol and a dedicated fixture of the National Ski Patrol community since 1978.

Over his nearly five-decade career with NSP, Mike gave generously of his time and expertise — serving as an OEC Instructor, OEC IT, and OET Instructor, and stepping into leadership as Section Chief for Section 2. His contributions were recognized with a National Appointment in 1998, a testament to the impact he had far beyond his home mountain.

Mike's warmth and dedication touched countless patrollers and skiers over the years, and his loss will be felt deeply throughout our patrol family.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral on July 8. Fellow patrollers are asked to wear their Patrol Jackets in his honor.

Rest easy, Mike. Thank you for everything you gave to ski patrol and this sport.
